Rent a gulet

A yacht, or a catamaran, is a popular vessel that is found almost everywhere. But if you want something original and exotic, renting a gulet is the way to go. Gulet is a traditional wooden boat in the Mediterranean.

They were used by fishermen and traders as early as the 18th and 19th centuries. In fact, the gulet was the main mode of transport before the advent of steamboats. But with the increase in the number of tourists, and the development of the sea cruise industry, gulet rental, especially in Turkey, has become a popular and sought-after service.

A modern gulet looks like its historical ancestor rather externally, inside it is a modern yacht with all the usual attributes and amenities. There are cabins, bathrooms, a kitchen and common areas. This is a large yacht with a lot of space.

Its design does not imply quick and sharp maneuvers. A gulet is designed for a quiet holiday at sea for a large group of people. The gulet has sails, but if its historical prototype moved to the sea with their help, then they are almost never used on modern ships.

Since the dimensions of this boat are very impressive, it can only accelerate to 10 knots, so it will not go on a long route, but there will definitely be enough reserves on board for a week-long tour J

Türkiye has preserved the traditions of gulet building best of all. There are shipyards that build new boats, and popular resorts where gulet rentals flourish - Bodrum and Marmaris.

Features of renting a gulet

Good capacity and autonomy. As we have already noted, a gulet is a large boat, on average its length is 20-30 meters, so it can take a fairly large group on board. There are spacious decks, lounge areas, salons, air-conditioned cabins, showers and toilets. Gulet is a small mobile hotel. Yes, the gulet is not very fast, but it is very roomy. Its huge water and diesel tanks allow it to sail autonomously for weeks, so you can enter marinas for refueling much less often. In addition, the cabins themselves have enough space even for large luggage. If an ordinary yacht is designed for an average of 10 people (4 cabins), then a gulet can comfortably accommodate 20 passengers, and even with a crew.
Unlike a regular yacht, which is rented with or without a skipper, gulets are rented out with the whole crew. That is, in addition to the captain who will manage the ship, you will have a cook and attendants at your disposal, they will perform work on board during the cruise. That is, at least three people in addition to the captain will provide you with comfort and coziness on board. At the same time, the team lives in a separate section specially designated for them on board.
And now, perhaps the most interesting advantage. When pre-booked at the right time, a gulet charter will cost you about the same as renting a regular small yacht for up to 10 people. But at the same time, you will get a ship 2 times larger and with a crew on board! The same system applies here as when renting yachts - you take a ship on Saturday and return it on Friday, that is, you order a week-long tour. If you take a gulet for a couple of days, then the cost per day will be much higher. This can only be done at the very beginning and end of the season, that is, in April or October, when the prices for Turkey minimal.

So, let's look at what is included in the total cost of renting a gulet.

Standard set

This includes things like the cost of renting a place in a cabin, the cost of fuel, bed linen + towels, marina berthing fees, crew services, cleaning on the ship.

Food

This can be organized in many different ways. As a rule, the charter company offers its standard plan according to which they work (“all inclusive”, three meals a day, etc.), or wishes for products are negotiated separately.

Accordingly, meals are either included in the standard set or paid separately.

Bar menu + beach entertainment

If the all-inclusive scheme is not used, then the cost of visiting restaurants, entertainment on the shore, cocktails and other alcoholic drinks are paid separately, this is approximately + 30% of the tour cost

Seasonal discounts

The total rental price also depends on the season. The high season here is June-August, while April, May, September and October are considered the low season. Gulet charter prices can fluctuate as much as 50%.

If we talk about a standard small gulet with 7 cabins and 14 guests, it will cost you about 7000 euros per week, or 500 euros per person. This is the low season price.

More passengers - less total price per person. In the high season, the price can increase by 2 times.

What is included in the yacht charter price?

The charter price includes the charter of the yacht and its standard equipment, as well as the first and last berth in the home marina.

The price does not include: fuel, additional equipment and services, berths, meals, transfers, personal medical insurance, air tickets.

What is yacht acceptance?

Before departure, the captain (skipper) inspects the vessel and determines that everything is in order and the yacht is ready to sail. This ensures the safety of passengers.

Is yacht insurance included in the price?

All boats rented by charter companies are insured, however, you and all crew members will need to take out travel medical insurance (for active sports).

If the trip is cancelled, can I get my money back?

The contract with the company specifies the conditions for return at certain times. Almost never the entire amount is returned, as a rule, the company can retain 10% of the amount if you cancel more than six months before the departure date, then the amount decreases as the departure date approaches.

Can unexpected complications arise when renting a yacht?
